It stinks...but I cannot afford it...

April 4th, 2012 at 04:02 pm

So...yea, this is tough. I took two big leaps this week...started the blog...laid my debt out there...both tough.

Now I have to live and work a plan...I am tracking my daily expenditures...like yesterday I spent 72 cents at the QT for iced tea...and $2.14 at Costco for a slice of pizza for dinner...other then that, nothing.

I even returned a package to QVC...I really do not shop there too much any more, but once in a while something "gets" me...so I returned a package Monday...so that is money saved, as I had bought it on easy pay...so one payment to be refunded...4 more will not be charged now...bravo to me.

My big test is right now...hockey play off tickets went on sale 44 minutes ago. I really want to go, which is why I know how long they have been on sale, but I am realizing I really cannot afford to go...and that sucks.

So the best thing I can come up with it...to deal with the mess I have created...focus, pay it off as quickly as I can...and next year, if playoffs come...I will hopefully be in the situation I can easily buy the tickets and enjoy the games.

I totally would have bought them before starting this blog and facing the harsh reality of totals. So I guess it is working.

But it still stinks.

It does stink, but the pain is a lot less later. Some very richy friends of ours decided NOT to do the hockey playoffs this year. Too much money for tickets, airfare, everything.
    Good Luck!

Hey, just found your blog today. In many ways your story is similar to mine. I had 30K in CC debt six years ago. DW and I went through infertility. That certainly contributed to our debt accumulation.

No magic - spend less and try to earn more.

Looks as if you have some crushing interest rates. (Captain obvious strikes again) I'm playing the balance transfer game right now. 0.0% introductory rates. Some caution against that, and it is a lot to manage, but it's working for me right now.

I tried calling my highest rate card to lower the APR. That didn't work for me, but it's certainly worth a shot.

Can you sell stuff that you've accumulated on eBay?

    Good luck.

Cheer yourself up about the hockey thing... Can you watch on TV? If you can, save the ticket money. Spend a few dollars for some snacks and invite some friends to watch with you at home. Just a thought!

Thanks everyone...this was just the first big change in me deciding how to spend my money...the truth is...my "wants" have got me where I am, which is with too much debt..so this is the first thing I am making a choice that no, I cannot afford to do this...and since my husband and I both make a nice income, it is hard to look at it that way...but I need to until we get the debt monkey paid off, and removed from our backs...

Looks like hockey playoffs will be watching on tv...and I will be happy about that...

It's not the same, but if you can lead yourself into a good mindset about watching the hockey game on TV with some fellow fans, and have them all bring some snacks, it could still offer some insurance of a great time! (Heck, I have never attended the Super Bowl or any Stanley Cup games, but it is still a lot of fun to watch with the right people...)

I was a ticket buyer, too! I went to so many sporting and concert events. I actually find that I enjoy watching things at home more: you can't see everything from the stadium no matter where you sit, you can't see the replays or hear the commentators on TV. Also, you're going to spend money on food and parking and stuff. Better to stay home in your PJs and make some delicious snacks. I love 7 layer dip and buffalo chicken dip.

It'll suck for a while but think about what else you can do with the cash. How many CC minimum payments can you make?
